WEDNESDAY REVIEW: JAPANDROIDS: POST NOTHING

So, It is my pleasure to introduce our very first review, this week focusing on the up and coming Vancouver band, Japandroids. If you guys are wondering why I am not reviewing an Australian band, the reason is that I have no Australian EP's ready on hand to review- so that's were you come in. If you are an artist with an EP, or you know someone who has an EP and you like that one particularly, send it on over to shade-of-black@hotmail.com , our temporary email adress while the new one is being set up, and I will get back to you and try and review them. Until then..

JAPANDROIDS, POST-NOTHING

THE ALBUM
The Japandroids are a two piece Garage rock act straight out of Vancouver, in the frozen north and have just signed a record deal after independantly producing their last two EPs. Post-Nothing is the Japandroids debut LP, and if it is any indication of how the band will do in the years to come, I really look forward to the upcoming releases. It's a frantic blend of fast beats and catchy lyrics with really interesting, yet simple guitar. You can tell that these guys have had alot of time just jamming, and it sounds like a really good jam in someones garage- that kind of raw energy that is just born from pure spontenaity. It's a very interesting album, in that it sound simple, but don't be decieved- the melodies are created to stick in your head, and when partnered up with the very catchy and hooky lyrics, you'll be singing that shit all day long. Believe me.

THE BAND

Brian King- Guitar
David Prowse- Drums

These guys met in 2006 and have been playing together since, and have recently ( as of last year) signed with Polyvinal Record CO., which is freaking great cause it means that more albums like this one can be released. Currently the band is going on a year long tour of North America and Europe, spreading their stuff around.

CHOICE SONGS

Young Hearts Spark Fire- The catchy lyrics and simple melody really draw you in, and after a few listens, it is in your head and you can't get it out. You will be humming this one for a while.

Heart Sweats- Again, really catchy. Especially the lyrics, which are kind of ridiculous but very cool. The bass like guitar leading into the song really gets your attention.

DOWNSIDES
- Some of the songs get a little repetitive, and if you are a fan of more complex stuff, this ain't your album
-The kind of sound remains constant over the whole album, so if you are looking for a album of great variation ( something like Songs For The Deaf) you are looking in the wrong place.

FINAL RATING

8.5/10

A really good debut album, and I hope that their next few releases are as good as this one, if not better.
